Canon Australia has announced mid-July avaiability of the PowerShot G3 X 25x superzoom compact.
The G3 X combines a 1-inch back-illuminated 20-megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC 6 image processor and a 9 blade, f2.8-5.6 aperture lens (24-600mm equivalent). ISO range is up to 12,800 and continuous burst speed 5.9 shots per second.
Videographers can create Full HD movies ‘with a level of control usually found in professional camcorders’. It provides variable frame rates from 24p up to 60p, as well as manual control of aperture, shutter and ISO. It has dedicated microphone and headphone jacks as well as a live HDMI output. Image stabilisation includes a 5-axis Dynamic IS mode.
The G3 X has an 3.2-inch tilt touch screen. The body is dust-proof and water resistant. It has an external flash hotshoe which doubles as a mount for an electronic viewfinder.
Remote shooting via Wi-Fi and a new Camera Connect app let users control the camera’s key functions from a smart device, including access to full manual control.
No local pricing is supplied, but Canon US has set the price in that market at one cent under US$1000 .
