Instant fame eluding hipsters

From www.hayibo.com (via Tim Jones, Perfect Prints): The international hipster community is in shock this week after the purchase of a vintage Polaroid camera by a young hipster failed to bring him instant acclaim as a gritty, original, yet quirky photographer. Meanwhile, the non-profit Hipster Photographer Rescue has revealed that ‘this kind of tragic occurrence is happening so often now that it’s almost become mainstream’.

Leaning against the exposed brickwork in his loft-slash-studio, 28-year-old ‘creative’ and part-time barista, Zak Retrough, said that he is ‘like, shocked?’ that his totally deck photographs of his friends looking moody next to some kitchen appliances from the ’70s have continued to be ignored by independent art galleries. Read more….

Lensbling – for the photographer who really likes things organised!

Adeal has announced two interesting accessory lines from camera strap specialist BlackRapid.

First cap of the rank is BlackRapid’s newsest product range, Lensbling, a series of rear lens caps that allow photographers to quickly and easily differentiate between lenses.

The caps’ bright, bold and raised labelling allows easier visibility. The numbers on the lenses represent the focal length of the camera lens making it easy to pull out the desired lens when shooting.

Lensbling caps are currently compatible with the following lenses:
– Nikon lenses: 24mm, 50mm, 85mm, 70-200mm and 105mm;
– Canon lenses: 24mm, 24-70mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 70-200mm.

RRP for Lensbling caps is $19.95

BlackRapid has also released an innovative lightweight 1.5mm steel security cable, which provides a perimeter barrier around BlackRapid camera straps or any other 1.5-inch bag or camera strap.

The strong steel cable adds an added level of protection when traveling in less secure parts of the world.

Available in long and regular sizes at RRPs of $44 and $40 respectively.

The Carlyle Group and Getty Images management have formed a partnership to acquire the world’s largest image and video stock agency from Hellman & Friedman for US$3.3 billion.

The deal will see Carlyle acquire a controlling stake in Getty Images, while co-founder and chairman Mark Getty and the Getty family ‘will roll substantially all of their ownership interests into the transaction.’ In 2008, their ownership represented 15 percent of the company’s share.

Jonathan Klein, Getty’s other co-founder and chief executive officer will also invest ‘significant equity’ in the company.
