GorillaPod now patent protected

March 10, 2011: Joby has been awarded a US utility patent for its fast-moving GorillaPod family of products.

The GorillaPod concept has been receiving unwanted ‘flattery by imitation’ since its launch in 2006.

‘We are honoured that the US Patent Office has recognised our efforts with a patent that confirms the novelty of the GorillaPod line,’ said Joby CEO Forrest Baringer-Jones. ‘Our ball-and-socket technology has long been recognised as innovative and unique.’

The US Patent joins Joby’s existing portfolio of domestic and international intellectual property protection, including trademarks, trade dress, and design patents. Joby has signalled that it intends to use its new utility patent to protect its intellectual property.

‘What this means in practice that any further offers of infringing product can now be impounded or restricted from sale,’ said John Swainston, managing director of Maxwell International.

‘Maxwell, as Australian distributor, will work with Joby to enforce the patent fully in Australia.’

Over 1 million Joby Gorillapod products are sold internationally each year.

…And here’s a couple of new Gorillamobile products launched earlier this year:
