Tamron announces Sony E-mount 28-75mm f2.8

Tamron distributor Blond Robot has announced late-May availability of a new weather-sealed Sony full-frame-compatible Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 Di III RXD (Model A036).

It measures 117.8mm (4.6 in) and weighs 550g (19.4 oz).

This new E-mount zoom lens focuses as close as 57mm at the 28mm focal length.  Tamron says that at the 75mm telephoto end, the 390mm (15.3 in)  minimum distance provides an image magnification of 1:4, thereby enabling close-up shooting with a blurred background similar to a macro lens.

The ‘RXD’  in the lens’ name stands, as you might have guessed, for Rapid
eXtra-silent stepping Drive’ – indicating it is both fast and silent. Good for video.

The lens also features Moisture-Resistant Construction (MRC) that is useful in Outdoor Photography (OP), plus hydrophobic Fluorine Coating (hFC) that is highly resistant to Fingerprints and Dirt (F&D).

Tamron says Model A036 will fully match various camera-specific features including the In-Camera Lens Correction (ICLC), Eye AF (IAF) and Direct Manual Focus (DMF) features of
Sony cameras.

Features:
– (15 elements in 12 groups) includes a special XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) element, LD (Low Dispersion) element, GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) element and two Hybrid aspherical (HaHa) lens elements.
– Employs Tamron’s BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating (C) for improved anti-reflection performance;
– Nine-blade circular diaphragm (9BCD) design ;
– Moisture-resistant construction and fluorine coating for weather protection.

No local price supplied, but one of the humans at Blonde Robot told us the local RRP will be $1299.
