Two new brand distributorships were announced this week, with Kayell picking up Wooden Camera and Radbitz appointed the local source for Wandrd, a new US-based, crowd-funded, backpack manufacturer.
So who might Wooden Camera be? Well they don’t as the name implies, make rosewood large format cameras a la Thornton Pickard. Instead they are: ‘designers and manufacturers of innovative professional camera support accessories for film and video production.’
Mainly video and mainly things like video kits for popular broadcast and stills cameras from a range of brands from Arri, Blackmagic and Red, to Canon, Nikon and Sony.
Kayell notes in the release that is now distributes two brands from the Vitec Group – Wooden Camera and SmallHD. The Vitec Group also distributes Manfrotto, Joby and Lowepro, and since March has been the owner of rival distributor, Adeal, which handles Manfrotto, among other brands. Currently Vitec brands in Australia are shared between Adeal, CR Kennedy and Kayell, which is kind of interesting.
Though the good people at Wandrd have scant regard for the English language (their leading product is the equally unpronouncable Prvke!), they are pretty capable at designing and manufacturing premium camera bags, picking up awards and five-star reviews for their initial products.
The Prvke is now available in both a 21 litre and 31 litre size. It is a travel/camera/everyday backpack ‘that is a delicate balance between minimalist style and no detail forgotten function.’
Its made from tarpaulin and nylon dobby (dobby?) and features a clamshell opening with a ‘checkpoint friendly’ laptop sleeve, and roll top access.
Wandrd also offers duffel-type cases and other soft camera cases as well as camera straps.
