GoPro Hero 7 range released

GoPro will release its new Hero 7 range on September 27, claiming it sets a new standard with HyperSmooth (Hero 7 Black only) ‘the best in-camera video stabilisation ever featured in a camera.’ The new 7 series cameras are locally priced at $599 for the Hero 7 Black, $449 for the Hero 7 Silver and $299 for the Hero 7 White.
GoPro claims ‘gimbal-like’ stabilisation with Hypersmooth, which also works underwater and in high-shock and wind situations where gimbals can fail.

HyperSmooth is a digital stabilisation system rather than optical, and GoPro’s CEO Nick Woodman had some big claims for GoPro’s version of what has generally been regarded as the inferior form of camera stabilisation: ‘HyperSmooth is gonna set a new bar for image quality not just in our product category, but a new bar for the entire digital industry as a whole,’ he told the website Mashable.

GoPro is also introducing a new form of video called TimeWarp, which applies a high-speed effect to videos.

The top of the range Hero 7 Black is the first GoPro to live stream, enabling users to automatically share in real time to Facebook, Twitch, YouTube, Vimeo and other platforms.

Hero 7 Black features:
– 4K/60 video and 12-megapixel photos, 8x slow motion in 1080p240;
– Waterproof without a housing to 10m;
– HyperSmooth stabilisation – Gimbal-like stabilization without the gimbal;
– Live Streaming;
– TimeWarp Video – Super-stabilised time lapse ‘magic carpet ride’ videos up to 30x speed;
– SuperPhoto – HDR, local tone mapping and noise reduction portrait mode – vertical-capture for easy sharing to Instagram Stories, Snapchat and more;
– Audio captures increased dynamic range, new microphone membrane reduces vibrations during mounted situations;
– Two-inch touch display with simplified user interface enables native vertical (portrait) use of camera;
– Voice Control – verbal commands let you go hands-free in 14 languages;
– Auto transfer to phone – photos and videos move automatically from camera when connected to the GoPro app for on-the-go sharing;
– Touch Zoom – frame photos and videos.

The Hero 7 Silver and Hero 7 White both shoot photo, video and time lapse footage. They also have built-in electronic image stabilisation (although not the super-duper HyperSmooth version).

They feature a redesigned user interface which GoPro claims ‘resembles the feel of a smartphone.’ They can also shoot video in vertical format.

Hero 7 Silver features:
– 4K/30 video and 10-megapixel photos;
– GPS-enabled to track speed, distance, height etc;
– Waterproof to 10 metres;
– 2-inch LCD touch screen with intuitive UI
– Electronic video stabilisation;
– 2x slow motion video;
– Share directly to Instagram Story with GoPro app;
– Voice control, auto-transfer to phone, QuickStories enabled, auto-backup to the cloud

The Hero 7 White shares most features with the Hero 7 Silver but only shoots at Full HD (1440p/60) and doesn’t have GPS.
