Epson didn’t release it’s first rapid photo scanner, the FastFoto FF640, in Australia or New Zealand, but with Kodak recently discontinuing its long-lived commercial ‘PS’ photo scanner product line, the new, improved FastFoto FF680W will get a look in locally, according to Epson Australia!
Epson says the FF-680W high-speed photo and document scanner is the fastest personal photo scanner currently available – one 4×6 per second at 300 dpi for a 36-photo batch.
Maximum print size is 8.5 inches and it can scan panoramas up to 8.5 x 36 inches.
It also scans at 600dpi – (max optical resolution) and 1200 dpi (interpolated) and supports fast duplex document scanning with OCR. It scans both sides of a photo or document in one pass.
Users can directly share scanned images to Google Drive and Dropbox, capture handwritten notes on the back of an image during a single scan, and perform a modest level of photo restoration and edits (auto enhancement, colour restoration, red-eye reduction, de-skew, crop and rotate), using the supplied Epson software.
The Epson FastFoto FF-680W scanner is available in the US for US$600. No local release details as yet, except confirmation it will be available ‘later this year’.
