Leica has announced pre-Christmas availability of the $3700 (body only) Leica CL APS-C mirrorless interchangeable, along with an 18mm, f2.8 lens.
This isn’t a re-badged Panasonic Lumix, but made by Leica in Germany. It takes the same L-mount lenses as the Leica TL2.
It features an electronic viewfinder with a latency time ‘below the threshold of perception’ and a resolution of 2.36 million pixels. This is matched with a 24-megapixel APS-C format sensor, a Maestro II series processor and autofocus with 49 metering points. Video is at up to 4K/30 frames per second. The CL’s 3-inch, 1.04 million dot rear LCD is touch-sensitive, and supports swipe gestures for image navigation and mode switching.
At just on 400g (including battery), it is one of the lightest APS-C interchangeables on the market.
There are two dials for setting the aperture, shutter speed ISO value, and exposure compensation, which Leica reckons can be operated without taking the camera from the eye. An additional display on the top plate provides information about all relevant settings and exposure parameters.
The extensive portfolio of TL-Lenses is also available to the Leica CL: Three zooms – the Super-Vario-Elmar-TL 1:3.5–4.5/11–23mm, Vario-Elmar-TL 1:3.5–5.6/18–56mm, and the APO-Vario-Elmar-TL 1:3.5–4.5/55–135mm; and four primes lenses – the Elmarit-TL 1:2.8/18mm, Summicron-TL 1:2/23mm, Summilux-TL 1:1.4/35mm, and the APO-Macro-Elmarit-TL 1:2.8/60mm.
SL-Lenses can also be used without an adapter on the CL and the TL2. Appropriate adapters are also available for using Leica M- and R-Lenses on the cameras.
The Leica CL also equipped with an integrated Wi-Fi module. The remote function of the related app lets mobile devices be used as an off-camera viewfinder or for altering exposure parameters – for example when shooting with the self-timer function or from unusual angles.
Local pricing for the Leica CL includes:
– Leica CL, Black anodised finish – RRP $3700;
– Leica CL, Prime Kit 18mm – RRP AUD$5200;
