Samyang adds to Sony E-mount range

Korean lensmaker Samyang has announced the AF 35mm F1.4 FE the fourth in its range of autofocus lenses for Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras, at a local RRP which should be a tad over $1000.

Samyang has until recently manufactured modestly-priced manual focus lenses, but with leading accessory lens specialist Sigma not yet making lenses for the Sony E-mount, it has clearly identified an opportunity to fulfill prospective demand.

Other lenses in the Samyang Sony FE (E-mount) range are the AF 14mm F2.8 FE, AF 35mm F2.8 FE and AF 50mm F1.4 FE.

The new lens’ design includes 11 elements in 9 groups and features 2 aspherical lenses and 2 high-refractive lenses, plus Ultra Multi Coating and a shiny little surrey with a fringe on top. It has nine aperture blades for better bokeh. At around 700g it’s no lightweight, but that’s the burden one carries  for superior image quality.

The lens is unstabilised, with newer cameras in the Sony full-frame mirrorless range having camera body image stabilisation.

Samyang states the wide aperture should appeal to astrophotographers, as the lens will allow more light to the camera, shortening exposure times and ensuring there’s no blurred stars from the rotation of the earth.

The Samyang AF 35mm f.1.4 FE will be available globally from November and will carry a European price-tag of 649 Euros – which is just under $1000. So a local RRP of just $899 is pretty tasty. You could grey market these to B&H customers in the US!
