Through Tasco, Meade will offer a broad range of telescopes, binoculars and spotting scopes for the beginner, up to the full professional LX600-ACF telescope for astronomers and astrophotographers.

Meade has particular strengths in providing professional-standard technology to advanced enthusiasts at an affordable price.

‘We are confident that TSA will be instrumental in continuing to build and strengthen the Meade/Coronado brand and tradition in Australia and New Zealand,’ said Victor Aniceto, president, Meade Instruments.

Chistopher Watkins, Tasco Sales Australia (TSA) director said, ‘We are very excited and honoured to represent such a great, world-renowned brand and products with a similarly strong heritage to those TSA already manages.

‘We believe the combination of Meade Instruments product development and technology together with TSA’s ability for great distribution and marketing will reposition the brand as a leader in its field.’

Meade was established in 1972 and has been at the forefront of telescope development from the ’70s through to the present day. The LX3, introduced in 1984 was seen as the first integrated astrophotography system for the mass market.

Among Meade’s other ‘firsts’ through the years are:
– the first commercial, fully-computerised, observatory-class Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, the now legendary 16-inch LX200 (1992). Meade opened the door for the serious amateur to get observatory-class optical power at a fraction of the cost of other, similarly powered telescopes;
– the first portable, fully-computerised telescope, the ETX Series with AutoStar (1999);
– the first ultra-high transmission coatings for commercial telescopes (2002);
– LightSwitch Technology, the first one-touch, fully-automatic alignment system (2009).

The LX600 with StarLock builds upon the venerable foundation of the LX200, integrating Meade’s’ StarLock full time Autoguiding, fast f8 Advanced Coma-Free (ACF) optics, detachable fork arms and the all new precision CNC-machined X-Wedge. StarLock makes target acquisition on your imaging sensor and accurate guiding during exposures completely automatic. Unlike add-on guiders, StarLock is integrated into the telescope control system and communicates directly with the motor controllers in real time.
