The 14-megapixel iON Sport Pro is waterproof to 10 metres, captures video at Full HD, has an 180-degree field of view and weighs just 140g.

‘iON has led the action camera market in ease of use and connectivity globally for the last few years and we are ecstatic to be able to work with iON across its existing and new categories of cameras,’ said John Rule, CEO, Brands Australia.

‘We are confident that the retailers in Australia will support this broader range of products, in particular the life-blogging product SnapCam and core safety and security products.’

The appointment follows iON cameras acquisition of Contour action cameras ‘to bolster its attack on the point-of-view (POV) camera market and diversify its offering across Security, Action and Lifestyle products.’

iON pioneered the concept of Shoot/Share Wi-Fi connectivity in POV cameras with its fully-waterproof Air Pro, Speed Pro, Adventure and The Game lines. It has been involved in the design, development and manufacture of digital imaging productsfor over 20 years. iON has recently developed SnapCam and iON The Home, along with a range of ‘Dash Cams’ for vehicle dashboards.

‘iON is the legitimate number two in the global POV market and with our increased offering, our appointment of Brands Australia comes at a time that we are expanding and looking at aligning with the best distributors across the globe,’ said iON CEO Giovanni Tomaselli.

iON is no one-trick pony, with wearables such as the SnapCam, dashboard cameras, home security units and even a model for monitoring one's golf swing. etc! Not to mention a plethora of accessories.

‘Brands Australia meets this criteria and we will support them to ensure iON delivers on increased distribution by working with our retail partners to maximise their sales results from this category.’

Mr Tomaselli said iON Cameras objectives were:
– To make the simplest and best Dash Cams, Home Security and POV action cams in the market;
– To support its retail partners to maximise their ROI;
– To deliver unmatched after-sales service to its end-use customers.

‘The Brands Australia appointment assists us to deliver our promises,’ said Tomaselli.

COMMENT: Along with some of the CES new product announcements, this is great news to kick off 2016. A new and diverse range of specific-application cameras in the hands of a distributor who knows the local photo retailing scene. GoPro has had this segment to itself for too long!
