Olympus has announced March availability of the 16-megapixel Stylus TG-860 Tough.
How Tough? The Stylus TG-860 Tough is waterproof to 15 metres, shock-proof to 2.1 metres, freeze-proof down to -10 degrees Celsius, and crushproof to 100kg. Responding to the new narcissism among snapshooters, the TG-860 is designed for easy ‘selfie’ shooting, with a front of camera Face button.
Its 3-inch LCD monitor has a resolution of 460,000 dots and can be tilted through 180 degrees. The lens covers a 5x optical zoom range, equivalent to 21-105mm in 35mm format. It will focus as close as 1cm.
The TG-860 also features a new Sportcam mode that captures super-wide point-of-view movies and still photos. Full HD movies can be recorded with 50p/60p quality, at speeds of 120 or 240fps (at lower resolutions) for super slow-mo movies. The camera supports time-lapse recording and includes a Sport Burst photo mode that lets users pre-set the duration of sequential shooting.
In-camera GPS is compatible with the QZSS and GLONASS systems for global data access and to provide accurate location data. Users can pre-load satellite locations to speed up initial satellite acquisition via the free Olympus Image Track smart device app, or the Olympus A-GPS Utility for computers. Built-in Wi-Fi functionality supports smart-phone remote control of the camera plus easy upload of pictures to popular social media sites via the Olympus Image Share app (iOS and Android compatible).
The TG-860 Tough will be offered in Black and Orange from March. Retail price is yet to be announced.
