CP+-dingusSamsung Electronics has announced the NX500, featuring the same APS-C 28-megapixel BSI sensor as its flagship NX1 camera in a more compact body.

EV-NX500_007_Right-Angle_Black_12The NX500 also features the same AF system as the NX1 and also offers similar Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth connectivity. It also supports both 4K and UHD video recording using the advanced HEVC /H.265 codec, and allows 8-megapixel frame grabs from video clips.

The DRIMeV processor enables continuous shooting at 9fps (the NX1 shoots at a world-beating 15fps) and the new camera also has another NX1 innovation, the Samsung Auto Shot function, which uses motion detection to trigger the shutter for action shots at the ‘decisive moment’ (eg, bat on ball).

The NX500 has a Tilt-and-Flip-up monitor for selfies, with a Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1.04 million dots. No viewfinder, though.

It measures 119.5 x 63.6 x 42.5mm, and has a body weight of 287 grams with batteries. The NX500 will be manufactured in Black, White, and Brown. It will be available globally starting in March 2015. No local details, but the NX500 is being offered for pre-order in the US with a 16-50mm lens for US$799.
