Polaroid’s next generation lifestyle action camera, the new Wi-Fi-enabled Polaroid Cube+, will be available in Australia from the end of this month at an RRP of $299.95.
Video resolution has been increased to 1440p Full-HD video at 30 frames per second, and it takes 8-megapixel still images, up from 6-megapixels.
The Cube+ is compatible with iOS and Android devices via the Polaroid Cube+ app. Users can sync the camera with their smartphone or tablet to capture and share their videos and photos from virtually anywhere, without the need to download their content to a computer.
The app and device can also be useds as a remote viewfinder to frame their shots, with the ability to control settings, begin/end recording, capture stills and edit, save, print or share, all while on-the-go.
Poilaroid has taken a different tack with the Cube, challenging the notion that action cameras are solely the tools of extreme sports enthusiasts. With its 35mm cube-shaped form factor, fun colours and accessories, competitive feature set and a sub $300 price-point, the Polaroid Cube has opened the market to everyday consumers and families who want to capture their less-than-extreme memories.
‘We knew we had to take an entirely different approach when we introduced the Polaroid Cube,’ said Scott W Hardy, president and CEO of Polaroid. ‘The action camera category was – and still is – a crowded space, so the ability to differentiate while adhering to the core values of our brand was paramount. The Polaroid Cube is a fun, easy-to-use, affordable lifestyle-centric action camera that immediately struck a chord with consumers around the world. We’re excited to grow the Polaroid Cube family with the introduction of the Wi-Fi enabled model.’
Polaroid has continued its partnership with renowned design firm Ammunition to create the new camera. Ammunition is the design studio behind award-winning consumer products for brands including Adobe, Beats by Dre, Square, Lyft and Williams-Sonoma.
‘It’s fantastic for us to work with Polaroid creating products that evoke the brand’s incredible heritage. With the original Polaroid Cube, we incorporated all the classic aspects of Polaroid; fun, spontaneity, accessibility and ease of use,’ said Robert Brunner, founder/partner of Ammunition. ‘The Polaroid Cube+ maintains the tiny cubic form factor and simple one-button operation that people love so much, while adding additional functionality that takes the product to the next level.’
Polaroid Cube cameras are supported by a range of affordable accessories, such as tripod, helmet, bicycle and strap mounts, and an underwater housing.
