Wellington-based photo retailer Photo Plus has been sold to the Ink Digital Group and moved from The Majestic Centre (Willis St) to the nearby Dukes Arcade (Manners St).
The 30-year old retailer had previously been part of Chris Wilkinson’s First Retail Group.
Photo Plus was acquired by the Ink Digital Group in December and joins their stable of established brands that include Imagelab and Ink.
The Ink group used to be known as Big Image Print and was a leading wide format printer in New Zealnd. Recent years have seen the business move into digital printing, prints onto metal and other creative services,
Photo Plus was one of New Zealand’s original 1-hour operators and one of the first to introduce on-site enlargements, APS processing and large format printing.
It’s a well-known and regarded retail brand in Wellington, and according to former principal, Chris Wilkinson, ‘it is this goodwill and recognition that the new owners are looking to build on as the company transforms into a complete digital solutions provider.’
Photo Plus moved locations this week to the busy Dukes Arcade. Here the store will be better able to display larger format print capability, photo décor products and gifting ranges. It will also be able to offer print services fulfilled from other Ink subsidiary companies.
Photo Plus’ original team will remain, and the new store will be managed by Jackie Nicol.
