Kmart Australia and Kodak Alaris this week confirmed that they have established an agreement ‘that enables Kmart to offer a complete in-store photo shopping experience using the latest photo printing technologies from Kodak Alaris.’
‘Kmart is totally focused on making it convenient for customers to shop in our stores. By partnering with Kodak Alaris, customers will be able to print photos directly from their phones via Wi-Fi without the need for cables or wires through the Kodak Kiosk Connect app,’ said Andrew Brewer, Divisional Merchandise manager of Kmart. ‘Currently, more than 20 percent of orders are coming directly from smartphones and we expect that to increase.’
The announcement has been an extraordinarily long time coming. A competitive trial of Kodak and Fujifilm printing systems commenced over a year ago. It’s been common understanding within the industry for perhaps six months or more that Kodak won the trial, and that Kodak equipment was being installed progressively in KMart stores through this year.
KMart chose Kodak for ‘its expertise in, and future vision for, the photo category,’ and ‘to help meet customer demand to print both in store via Kodak Alaris’ user-friendly kiosk interface and also from smartphones and tablets.’ In addition to smartphone printing capabilities, Kodak Alaris says the kiosks also allow direct access to photos on customers’ Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Kmart has installed a Kodak Adaptive Picture Exchange (thermal dye transfer) dry lab, up to 10 Kodak Picture Kiosks (although most installations have fewer kiosks), the Kodak D4600 duplex photo printer for instant double-sided photo products, and wide-format printers in each of their stores nationwide.
‘We want to make it easy for consumers to create personalised products with their photos from their mobile devices. More Australians can now print their Kodak Moments with Kmart offering the latest in photo printing technology,’ said Nicki Zongrone.
KMart is offering 6×4 prints at just 10 cents, or 20 cents if the customer wants them immediately. .
