Compact, affordable Lumix GF7 announced

Panasonic Australia has announced February availability of its latest mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, the Lumix DMC-GF7, with a price of $699 including 12-32mm lens.

Lumix-GF7The GF7 features a 16-megapixel Digital Live MOS sensor and Venus Engine processor, and a 180-degree tiltable touch screen monitor. Panasonic says the high resolution monitor offers high visibility for outdoor shooting. A ‘Self Shot Mode’ provides automatic triggering for shooting selfies. It includes ‘Face Shutter’ and ‘Buddy Shutter’ modes, which detect one or two faces in the frame and will automatically take the shot when the camera is on a selfie stick. The camera takes the shot immediately, or after a 3-second or 10-second countdown.

The GF7 includes 22 filter options, which can be used in the P/A/S/M shooting modes. Users can take pictures ‘with’ and ‘without’ creative filter effects and chose their preferred version. Twenty Scene pre-sets are also available, with the most commonly-used – Portrait, Child and Scenery – accessible directly from the mode dial.

Movie clips are at up to Full-HD (1920 x 1080/50p) in AVCHD or MP4 (MPEG-4 / H.264) format with stereo sound. P/A/S/M modes, full-time AF, AF tracking and Touch AF are available when shooting video. Video features include ‘Time Lapse Shot’ and ‘Stop Motion Animation’. A new ‘snap movie mode’ allows fast capture and share to Vine, Instagram and Facebook.

The camera also offers a ‘Jump Snap’ feature. The acceleration sensor on a smartphone detects the highest point of a jump and releases the camera shutter via Wi-Fi and the Panasonic Image App.

Wi-Fi has been simplified – just press the Wi-Fi button, start the app on the smart device and it’s ready to go.

Other features include continuous shooting at 5.8 fps for 5 seconds at full resolution.

Panasonic now has a range of 23 Micro Four Thirds lenses for use with its mirrorless interchangeable cameras. The GF7 will go on sale in late February at an RRP of $699 for the single-lens kit (12-32mm) or $999 for the twin lens kit, 12-32mm plus 35-100mm). It will be available in black or pink.
