New compacts, camcorders from Canon

Canon has announced three new digital compact cameras and two camcorders at the Consumer Electronic Show 2014 in Las Vegas.

The three compacts are the PowerShot N100, ‘a brand new concept camera, packed full of innovative new technologies’; the PowerShot SX600 HS; and IXUS 265 HS.

The IXUS 265 HS will be exclusive to JB HiFi stores in Australia.

PowerShot N100 key features:
– 12.1 Megapixel 1/1.7-inch  (7.6×5.7mm) CMOS sensor;
– Dual Capture with rear-facing ‘story camera’ – ‘allowing you to simultaneously capture your expression behind the camera as you press the shutter’.
– 5x zoom lens;
– Create albums with ‘Story Highlights’ software;
– Wi-Fi with NFC;
– Tilt-up touchscreen.

The Powershot N100 will not be available in Australia until May. Canon’s US pricing is US$349 with shipping at end of March.

PowerShot SX600 HS key features:
– Ultra-wide angle 18x optical zoom and 36x digtial zoom;
– Compact, pocketable body with metal exterior;
– 16 megapixel sensor;
· Wi-Fi and NFC;
– Available in red and black.

IXUS 265 HS key features:
– 16 megapixel sensor;
– 12x optical zoom, 24x digtial zoom;
– Compact body with metal exterior;
– Wi-Fi and NFC;
– Available in silver.

Canon also announced the Legria mini X – ‘a brand new creative camcorder that delivers professional quality audio alongside stunning HD video to match’ and the Legria HF R506, ‘designed for anyone who wants to record life’s most precious memories in stunning quality, powered by Canon’s DIGIC DV4 imaging platform.’

    “The IXUS 265 HS will be exclusive to JB HiFi stores in Australia.” … The guys running the Canon online store will be disappointed to hear that they are being left out in the cold on this one.

    I notice all 3 new cameras come with wifi and NFC. Does that mean they are for customers with No F###ing Clue!
