Epson launches D700 at $4K

Epson Australia today (October 2) announced the launch of its new 6-colour SL-D700 Dry Film Mini Lab, designed for retail, event and professional photo production, at $1000 under the anticipated local price.

epson-SureLab-D700The SL-D700 offers many of the same features of the larger, higher volume SL-D3000  but in a versatile, cost-effective and easy-to-operate desktop format.

The D700 has been designed for commercial photo and photo merchandise production and can be used for the production of quality photo prints as well as passport and ID images, photo albums, greeting cards, calendars, menus, fliers and awards.

The D700 Epson also sets an attractive entry price for commercial inkjet photo printing with an entry-level system costing $3995 ex tax. In addition to the lower price Epson says the D700 uses inexpensive consumables and boasts an extremely compact design with low power consumption.

The D700 ships with both Windows and Macintosh drivers enabling operators to print directly from common photo applications including Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Darkroom. Epson also offers optional Order Control software with integrated image adjustment tools, job costing and batch management facilities (Windows only).

The D700 produces prints from 102x89mm (4” x 3.5”) to 210x1000mm on a choice of gloss, luster and matte media with or without borders. In normal production mode (720x720dpi) it produces up to 360 6×4-inch prints per hour. It also has a high speed mode which produces up to 430 6x4s, as well as a high quality mode (225 prints at 720x1440dpi)

Epson sees the D700 in a wide range of applications including consumer, event and show imaging, family, corporate and talent portraiture, wedding, school, art and speciality photography. It has fast start up times and features auto power saving with rapid resume, saving time and energy.

The SL-D700 uses Epson UltraChrome D6-S Dye Ink and a precision Micro Piezo TFP self-cleaning print head with ‘Variable Sized Droplet Technology’ (VSDT) to produce prints with a high colour gamut, high contrast and no grain. It also incorporates a media output heater that enables prints to exit dry with a durable and high quality finish. It incorporates auto nozzle checking and integrated paper dust removal to ensure easy maintenance.

All consumables are front loaded and there is also a front mounted waste paper bin. The printer accepts 65 metre paper rolls that are spindle loaded to enable rapid exchange, and utilises a high speed USB2.0 interface, flexible drivers, integrated colour management, error reporting and on-screen help and maintenance guidance.

It comes with a ‘heads-n-all’ warranty with a choice of one or three years cover. Free on-site service is provided for D700s located in Australian or New Zealand metro areas.

The D700 is now available in Australia and New Zealand and can be ordered as a base printer with an inkset, or with a complete Photo Pack that includes an output tray, five rolls of media, a media storage bin, spare spindle and Order Control Software.
