Stylish Stylus 1 from Olympus

Olympus has announced December release of the Stylus 1, the new flagship of the Olympus digital compact range.

stylus1-frontIt has a 12-megapixel, 1/1.7-inch (7.6 x 5.7mm) back-lit CMOS sensor and TruePic image processor, with a 10.7x optical zoom lens (28-300mm in 35mm format) with a constant f2.8 maximum aperture.

A large electronic viewfinder (EVF) provides the highest magnification factor in its class and, states Olympus, similar viewing quality to the OM-D cameras. The new camera provides an advanced range of controls with a hybrid control lens ring and a side mounted zoom lever. Users can customise multiple buttons as in interchangeable lens cameras.

Built-in Wi-Fi functionality enables communication with smart devices via an app (OI.Share) for iOS and Android.

The Stylus 1 has 11 Art Filters and 5 Art Effects, which can be used with still photos and movies. High -sensitivity shooting is supported to ISO 12,800 and the camera includes a built-in three-step ND filter for controlling exposure, enabling greater depth of field control via the use of wider apertures.

The 3-inch titlable LCD monitor has a resolution of 1.04 million dots and a capacitative touch panel. The Stylus 1 also includes a Bulb setting that supports exposures of up to 30 minutes as well as a range of self-timer functions.

Optional accessories include a leather camera case and 1.7x tele-converter and converter adapter. The Olympus Stylus 1 will be available in black from December 2013. Recommended retail price of the camera and accessories is to be announced. (US advertised pricing is US$699.)
