Peters CH now Bentleys CH

Brett Peters has closed his Peters Camera House store at Westfield North Lakes, with the store re-opening this week as a new Bentleys Camera House outlet.

In name only: The North Lakes Westfield outlet is now part of the six-store Bentleys Camera House group.

This closes an era in Queensland photo retailing started by Brett’s father Ken Peters over 40 years ago, while bringing to six the number of stores in the Bentleys Camera House group in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Former pharmacist Ken Peters started Ken Peters Photographics in Redcliffe in 1972.

At one stage Ken Peters had five stores around Brisbane. Ken Peters retired in 1998, with Brett and his wife Andrea taking over management.

In 2009 Redcliffe closed to be replaced by the new store at Westfield North Lakes. It’s believed at least some of the Peters Camera House staff have been retained by Bentleys.

Brett Peters is one of the most popular retailers in the industry, held in high regard by both suppliers and fellow retailers. His departure is a great loss. Fortunately the store is in ‘a safe pair of hands’ under the equally venerable Bentley name.

It could have ended in the late 80’s when we, Kodak Retail ( I was state manager) were set to buy the original bayside store from Ken. I think that the “Kodak” person with us got offside with Ken and the sale did not proceed. Kodak had a big bag of money in those days and would buy anything they could especially if the weren’t using Kodak paper!

At least it gave the Peters family another 25 years of carrying the CH flag.

I am sorry to see Brett & Andrea go, it is indeed the end of an era, we wish them all the best for the future.
