New Sigma 24-105mm full-frame compatible

CR Kennedy has released details of a new full-frame compatible Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM lens that will be the standard zoom lens in the company’s ‘Art’ product line.

sigma_24_105_013_horizon_hoSigma has three lens ranges: ‘Contemporary’; ‘Art’; and ‘Sports’.

Designed primarily for DSLR cameras with 36x24mm (‘full frame’) sensors, the new lens will be available in Canon, Nikon and Sony and Sigma mounts and will be supplied with a soft case and petal-shaped lens hood. Offering a constant f4 maximum aperture across the focal length range, the 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM lens will produce superior image quality to meet the specifications of the latest high-end cameras,

It includes optical stabilisation and an HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) AF drive, which ensures fast and quiet autofocusing. Manual focusing is also available.

The optical construction features 19 elements in 14 groups and includes FLD, SLD and glass-moulded aspheric lenses with one double-sided aspheric lens. It suppresses chromatic aberration effectively at telephoto-end and minimises vignetting, with Super Multi-Layer Coating applied to reduce flare and ghosting and provide sharp, high contrast images even in backlit conditions.

The 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM lens has a minimum focusing distance of 45cm and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4.6, suitable for close-up photography. Sigma says the nine-blade rounded diaphragm creates an attractive bokeh at large-aperture settings. This lens can be fitted with 82mm filters. It has a diameter of 88.5mm and is 109.4mm long. The overall weight is 885 grams.

The lens is made of metallic parts and ‘metal-like’ compound material, TSC (Thermally Stable Composite). The bayonet mount is made from brass, providing high accuracy and durability. The designs of the lens cap and AF/MF changeover switch have also been improved.

The new lens is compatible with Sigma’s optional USB dock, which enables users to easily update the lens firmware and adjust parameters such as focus using SIGMA Optimization Pro dedicated software

No information is available on when the new lens will be available in Australia, nor on the local pricing. It’s yet to be released in other markets.
