Wollongong retailer to run London Marathon

Ian Sackett, Wollongong Camera House, has been chosen as one of only 10 people in Australia to represent the Leukaemia Foundation in the London Marathon in April.

‘This will be the last year that people from other countries will be allowed to participate in
the well-known Marathon for a charity, and want to make sure I can achieve as much
support as possible to help the Leukaemia Foundation,’ said Mr Sackett. .

A former PMA Young Achiever, and at 26 one of the youngest photo retail store managers in the industry, Mr Sackett has taken part in several long-distance running events in support of the Leukaemia Foundation.

Last year he finished the Hunter Valley Running, the Sydney City 2 Surf, the Wollongong Relay for Life and the Blackmore Sydney Running festival half marathon.

‘We are very excited to have 10 people running and working hard to raise funds for the
Foundation and run in such a well-known event for us! Ian has been so committed to
helping us and we hope the community really gets behind him to make sure this is a huge
success,’ commented Nina Field, Regional Manager at the Leukaemia Foundation.

Money raised by Ian and the other nine Aussie London Marathon participants will help the
Leukaemia Foundation continue to provide a range of services, at no cost, to people and
their families affected by blood cancer – services that range from educational information
on specific blood diseases, through to financial assistance and the funding of vital research into treatments and cures.

The London Marathon (www.virginlondonmarathon.com) will take place on April 22.

His goal is to raise $10,000 through sponsorship, and with around a month and a lot of funds still to be raised, he is looking for support from the photographic community (in addition to the no doubt generous contribution from Camera House head office!) To support Ian Sackett, click here.
