Canon Australia has announced September availability of the Canon PowerShot SX500 IS, ‘the world’s lightest 30x zoom camera’.
The PowerShot SX500 IS, which will be in stores in Australia from mid-September, enables users to shoot photographs from 24mm wide angle through to 720mm.
When Canon’s ZoomPlus digital zoom technology is applied, that range pushes out to 1440mm (60x), with neglible image degradation, according to Canon.

One of the challenges with a long zoom range is that the slightest camera shake can mean you lose your subject when trying to take a photo. However, with the PowerShot SX500 IS and the latest Canon Framing Assist function, ‘Seek’, you can still get a great photo, no matter how far away your subject is. Simply holding the Seek button allows the user to quickly re-frame their shot on their chosen subject without zooming back and forth, enabling them to bring far away images back into frame without losing their focus.
