Order book open for Pentax Optio S1

March 30, 2011: CR Kennedy has announced local availability of the 14-megapixel, 5x zoom Pentax Optio S1 digital compact camera, offered in glossy chrome or piano black, at a sub-$200 RRP.

The Optio S1 is a stylish, elegant and ultralight digital camera in an aluminium alloy housing. Both models feature a contrasting, colour-coordinated lens barrel and translucent control buttons, as well as laser-engraved logos and feature descriptions on the front panel. The design detail of the Optio S1 makes it a digital camera that doubles as a fashion accessory.

The 5x zoom lens covers 28mm wide angle to 140mm telephoto focal lengths, with digital zoom extending the range to 33.5x.

A mechanical Shake Reduction (SR) system helps prevent image blur at up to three additional shutter steps, and the S1 also automatically raises the sensitivity as high as ISO 6400 for higher shutter speeds to minimise the effects of camera shake and subject movement in low-light conditions.

The S1 has widescreen HD movie recording with dedicated REC button.

The Auto Picture mode detects 14 different subjects and scene types including people, landscape, blue sky, sunset, and more. The mode instantly optimises all camera settings such as sensitivity and shutter speed for the quality images for the type of subject and scene identified.

A new-generation Face Detection AF & AE function instantly and accurately detects the subject’s face in the image field and a Natural Skin mode reproduces natural, healthy skin texture.

In addition, the camera offers nine digital filters, including Toy Camera and Retro, to add various creative visual effects to recorded images without a computer. A new Miniature filter converts any scene into an image full of miniatures, and an HDR (high dynamic range) filter, a first for a Pentax compact. produces images with outstanding exposure detail in wide exposure situations.

Additional features:
– Wireless remote shooting using an optional Pentax infrared remote control;
– 2.7-inch colour LCD monitor (230K dots);
– In-camera recharge system for simple and convenient, mobile phone-like battery recharging;
– Compatibility with SDXC memory cards;
– Dynamic Range (D-Range) adjustment to prevent whitewashed and blacked-out areas in an image;
– Image viewing, editing and filing software included: ArcSoft MediaImpression 3.0 X (Windows) and MediaImpression 2.1 (Macintosh).

Available in April, the Option S1 has an RRP of $199, and CR Kennedy is taking orders now at a ‘best wholesale price’.

COMMENT: It’s worth noting that the local RRP is around the same price the camera is being advertised on the US B&H and Amazon websites, so retailers will not lose sales to the overseas online channel with this model…
