Nikon adds to and upgrades Coolpix S range

February 17, 2011: Nikon Australia has announced the coming release of five new Coolpix S-series cameras,

The all-new Coolpix S9100 (pictured right) features a backside-illumination CMOS sensor for improved low-light performance, an 8x zoom Nikkor lens, and a touch screen LCD panel.
Other cameras in the line-up are the Coolpix S6100, the S4100, S3100 and S2500.

Coolpix S9100 features:

-18x zoom Nikkor lens: from wide-angle 25mm to super-telephoto 450mm;
– Backside illumination 12-megapixel CMOS sensor with superior high-speed continuous shooting and low light performance;
– 3-inch, 921k-dot TFT LCD monitor with wide viewing angle, colour reproduction covers almost entire sRGB gamut.
– New Easy Panorama mode (sounds similar to Sony’s Sweep Panorama).
– New Pet Portrait mode
– New Special Effects: Soft, High Key, Low Key, Nostalgic Sepia, High-contrast Monochrome and
– Selective colour options available
– Full-HD movies with stereo sound (1920 x 1080)

Coolpix S6100 features:

– 16-megapixels, 28mm 7x zoom Nikkor lens;
– 3-inch wide viewing angle touch panel TFT LCD monitor;
– Four functions that enable capture of nighttime shots in dimly lit or dark surroundings;
– Low noise at high sensitivities: superior image quality in images captured at ISO 1600;
– Motion detection: Detects camera shake and subject movement, compensates by controlling shutter speed and ISO sensitivity;
– Lens-shift vibration reduction (VR): Equivalent to a three-step increase in shutter speed.
– Pet Portrat mode
– Slide shows with animated characters:, music tracks
– Filter Effects: Soft, Selective Colour, Cross Screen, Fisheye and Miniature
– Easy HD movie recording

Coolpix S3100/4100 features:

– 14-megapixels, 26mm 5x zoom Nikkor lens;
– Selection of colour options, simpler, stylish design;
– Pet Portrait mode;
– Filter Effects: Soft, Selective Colour, Cross Screen, Fisheye and Miniature Effect;
– 3-inch 460k-dot, wide-viewing angle TFT LCD monitor. (Touch screen functions on Coolpix 4100 only);
– Animated characters built in (Coolpix S4100 only).

Coolpix S2500 features:

– 12-megapixels and 27mm, 4x zoom Nikkor lens;
‘Enriched basic functions’: Scene Auto Selector mode, Smart Portrait mode with Smile Timer , Blink Proof and Skin Softening functions, and Subject Tracking;
A simple design and 20mm slimline body;
Four colour options available.

The S2500 is available in black and pink, with an RRP $139. The S3100 is available in black, purple, blue and silver with an RRP of $179. The S4100 is available in black, with an RRP of $229.

Pricing has not been supplied for the S6100 or S9100, and exact release dates are also to be confirmed.
