Mirrorless interchangeable zoom from Tamron

Maxwell International has announced the imminent release of Tamron’s first high-powered zoom lens for Sony’s NEX-series cameras, the Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III VC (Model B011).

The new  lens will become available in Australia in mid-January 2012 with an RRP of $849. ‘Di III’ (Digitally integrated design) is a new designation for lenses engineered specifically for mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras. These lenses are compact and lighter in weight than Tamron’s DSLR lenses.

Weighing only 460 grams, the new lens covers an angle of view equivalent to 27-300mm in 35mm format. It comes with built-in VC (Vibration Compensation) for easy handheld shooting. The VC mechanism employs a lightweight three-coil system, electromagnetically moving the VC group via three steel balls. It operates more quietly than Tamron’s earlier VC unit.

The AF drive in the new lens has a stepping motor that is optimal for the Contrast-detection AF system employed by NEX series cameras. Direct Manual Focus (DMF) function supports fine manual adjustments after initially focusing by AF. The minimum focusing distance of 0.5 metres at the 200mm position makes this lens useful for shootign close-ups.

More information regarding this exciting new lens from Tamron will be available in early 2012 at www.tamron.com.au.
