Kodak launches socially-networked hybrid cameras

May 4, 2011: Kodak Australasia has announced coming availability of two new HD video cameras – the Kodak Playfull and the waterproof, ‘ruggedised’ Kodak Playsport. (pictured below right).

Both cameras feature Kodak’s exclusive Share Button making it easy for users to share videos and pictures with friends and family in three simple steps. Kodak recently added Twitter and several other sites to its connected list.

‘Kodak has an HD pocket video camera to suit everyone, whether you want to capture your moments at the party or the club, on the mountain or on the water,’ said John Hatzimanolis, marketing manager, Kodak Australasia. ‘The Kodak Playfull and Kodak Playsport video cameras also feature something no other camera has – the Share Button – so it’s simple to share life’s moments with your social network.’

The ‘hip and stylish’ Playfull enables capture of full 1080p HD video or 5 megapixel stills. Pressing the Share Button tags an image to a chosen social networking sites or an email address.

Sites the Playfull connect to include Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Flickr and Kodak Gallery.

Built-in software and and a USB arm enables automatic sharing, in-camera charging and econnects to a computer for automatic upload.

The Playsport camera also delivers full HD video and 5-megapixel stills in a body which is waterproof up to 10 feet, shockproof and dustproof. It’s ideal for snow sports, snorkelling, mountain biking, white water rafting or other outdoor activities.

Other features of the new cameras include:
– On-camera editing lets you trim and extract still pictures from video;
– Four capture effects including black and white, sepia, high saturation and ’70s film look. (Makes everybody’s hair look bigger?);
– Smart face tracking technology;
– LCD Glare Shield feature to help you see the screen in very bright sunlight;
– Expandable SD/SDHC card slot up to 32 GB
– Remote control compatible

The The Kodak Playfull will be available in blue-silver and purple at an RRP of $ $199.

The Kodak Playsport will be available in white and aqua for $249.

Kodak is offering both models on its ‘Kodak Shop’ online retailing website in addition to usual retail channels.
