June 1, 2011: Ozical Technology, a Sydney-based Australian designer/manufacturer and importer of consumer digital imaging products and computer accessories, announced new waterproof and 3D camcorders and cameras under the Otek brand at the CeBit technology exhibition at Darling Harbour this week.
The colourful Watersportz cameras – waterproof to 3 metres – capture 5-megapixel stills and HD video, with the 720p model priced at just $79 and the FullHD 1080p camcorder model at $199.
Ozical says the Watersportz range was recently recognised at the international Reddot Design Awards in Germany.
They feature a 3-inch LCD panel, 128Mb of built-in storage and SDHC card slot, a 5-megapixel CMOS sensor and 4x digtal zoom.
Ozical also showed a Full HD 3D camcorder at an extraordinary $349 price point.
The Otek 3D View is a simple point-and-shoot camcorder capable of Full HD (1080p) 3D video footage and 3D still images ‘at a fraction of the price of its big brand competitors’.
It can also be switched over to 2D stills and video capture.
With the 3.2-inch LCD colour screen, no glassses are required to view footage and stills in 3D. It’s equipped with a 5-megapixel CMOS sensor and 3D dual-lens technology, and digital zoom to 8x in 3D and 10X in 2D.
The Watersportz camcorders will be available in July and the 3D View model in August.
Ozical Technology general manager, Jessie He, says that, having entered the digital imaging business around eight years ago, the company is having some success with its cameras and film/slide scanners in the IT and CE channels, and is keen to establish broader distribution into the photo specialist channel.
She emphasised that Otek brand products are exclusive to the Australian market, and therefore don’t have offshore/onliner competitors undercutting local customers on price.
She said that some individual Camera House stores have been stocking Otek products with good results for the ‘really competitive, more-than-acceptable-quality’ range. Ozical will be at the PMA trade exhibition on Stand N525.
The simplicity and affordable pricing of Otek products appeals to the youth and middle markets, according to Ozical: ‘Consumers who want functional, value for money products they can rely on to perform.’
