Lifepics canvas popular
September 14, 2011: From Photo Direct (unedited): Lifepics has announced that canvas prints continue to be its most popular new photo product this year and as a result Lifepics has moved canvas print products onto their new gifting engine.
For readers familiar with the Lifepics service the new engine has a similar look, feel and functionality as their photo book, calendar and greeting card engines.
Steuart Meers at Photo Direct says, ‘This new engine will make a big difference by allowing customers to choose from a variety of sizes and styles of canvas prints, and perform several edits on their photos. Editing abilities include adding text to a canvas print, rotating and cropping photos, and adding multiple images to a canvas. Customers can also add backgrounds, clip art, and borders to photos on the canvas print if they choose.’
Mr Meers also advises that Lifepics recently added several new canvas print products that retailers can enable and produce in-house. Retailers with the ability to produce these products should definitely activate and promote these products as summer approaches. There are 20 new sizes for in-house canvas prints, ranging from 8×8 up to 40×60. All are designed for 1-inch wraps with a variety of other different widths to be released shortly. Panasonic HD video frmware update
September 14, 2011: From Pansonic (unedited): Panasonic will now make HD Video shooting available across seven LUMIX G Micro System lenses with a new firmware update that ensures quiet operation during autofocusing, and enhances Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) performance when shooting video.
Alistair Robins, group marketing manager, Lumix, Panasonic Australia, said: ‘Now we have eight lenses capable of shooting great quality HD video as well as still. This expansion in functionality further enhances the creativity and flexibility of our LUMIX G Series System.’

Sony E-mount camcorder takes 16MP stills
September 15, 2011: Sony will release its new NEX-VG20E Full HD E-mount system camcorder in Australia from November 2011.
Selling for an RRP of $2499 as body only or $3299 with an 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 E-mount lens, the NEX-VG20E provides a wide range of creative possibilities for shooting cinematic Full HD video and high-resolution still photos. With a resolution of 16.1 effective megapixels, the Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor provides similar performance to Sony’s digital still cameras for shooting still photos and includes ARW.RAW format support for post-processing flexibility. For both video and stills capture, the large sensor offers low noise in low light.
Full HD video shooting in AVCHD format is now complemented by a choice of 50p and 25p (progressive) frame rate options. Footage shot at 25p can be enhanced with Cinema Tone Gamma and Cinema Tone Colour for a richer, more cinematic look. The built-in Quad Capsule Spatial Array Microphone supports stereo audio recording and 5.1 channel surround. There’s a new audio level control, plus pro-style jacks for an external microphone and monitoring headphones.
Several ergonomic refinements provide greater user comfort. The camcorder’s handgrip has been redesigned to offer excellent stability and the manual adjustment of exposure, iris and other settings, from the pro-style control dial can be accessed even when the LCD panel is closed. Dedicated function keys provide quick access to shooting modes (Iris, Shutter speed, Program AE). A second REC button is available for low-angle shots and a expanded focus button is included. All can be accessed without taking the eye from the electronic viewfinder.
The 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD features TruBlack technology for clear, high contrast images. The screen can be rotated over a 270 degree range for easy framing in any position, even with the camera held low. Touch panel operation simplifies all shooting functions.
