Big air time for GE Camera brand

August 22, 2011: Tasco Sales has announced that GE Cameras will be a sponsorship partner in the 2011 Toyota One Hit Wonder Down Under big-air skiing and snowboarding event at Thredbo in September.

The Toyota One Hit Wonder Down Under event is the southern hemisphere’s most watched big-air skiing and snowboarding event, and GE Cameras will use it as a platform to promote its DV1 all-weather mini camcorder.
‘Our sponsorship of One Hit Wonder will deliver incredible exposure for GE Cameras – both through print, broadcast and online media as well as through social media, where word of mouth is proving so powerful. The event is a natural fit for the brand and we look forward to leveraging the opportunities it presents us to gain even more awareness for GE Cameras and build a fantastic platform for sales as we head towards Christmas,’ said said Stewart Pickersgill, general manager, Camera Sales Division, Tasco Sales, the local distributors of GE Cameras..

One Hit Wonder invites international and local skiers to capture and submit video online of their best ‘one-hit’ big air trick.

Sixteen skiers will then be chosen to go head-to-head in a 5-day big-air competition kicking off on September 6, where they will soar off one of the world’s largest jumps and execute their best tricks in front of the camera. Reigning champ from last year, Winter XGames superstar Bobby Brown (US) will return to Australia again to reclaim his title.

Footage of each rider’s best trick is then uploaded to the web, where the public will vote on which skier gets to take home the $10,000 cash prize. Public voters will also go in the draw to win the ‘Ultimate Winter Package’ including an all expenses trip for two to Japan and a DV1 camcorder to record it all on.

‘It’s a totally unique concept which lends itself spectacularly to photo and video content, and we are really excited to be involved,’ said Mr Pickersgill.

‘GE’s waterproof and shockproof mini camcorder, the DV1, is one of our best sellers and it’s the perfect camera to shoot full HD video with, whether you’re carving turns in the snow or catching waves at the beach.’

A highlight of the partnership will be GE’s involvement in the One Hit Wonder after party, an event which will include a snowboard rail jam. Footage from this event will be captured by the DV1 and broadcast to the event’s large online audience.

Proving great skiers feel as at home in the water as they do in the mountains, immediately following the One Hit Wonder big-air competition, a number of the event’s high profile international competitors will embark on a surf trip down the Australian east coast, with GE DV1 mini camcorders in hand to document their adventures.

GE Cameras will leverage the event through the company’s new Australian Facebook page where fans will be able to view exclusive content and win camera prizes.

GE Cameras also plans to use the event to gain exposure for its upcoming G100 and E1410SW cameras, featuring new Aptina A-Pix CMOS pixel technology. A unique feature of these cameras is their Multi-Exposure mode, which can capture up to six consecutive frames and combine each into a single exposure, resulting in a dramatic ‘time lapse’ effect (example pic at right).
