Ted’s announces ‘Celebrate Your City’ winners

October 15, 2010: Ted’s Cameras has announced the winners of its 40th anniversary ‘Celebrate Your City’ photo competition, with an image of Canberra’s Commonwealth Bridge nudging out the usual icons to take top prize.

Geoffrey Jones, a computer technician from Canberra, took the winning shot (reproduced below), while Nano Kato a high school student from Brisbane takes second place and Kevin Ellistore, a Southbank Institute of Technology student, also from Brisbane, was awarded third place.

Kevin Ellistore captured the bright lights of Brisbane at night, and Nano Kato’s photo highlights the beauty of one of Brisbane’s famous icons – the Wheel of Brisbane.

To help celebrate Ted’s Cameras 40th anniversary, ‘Celebrate Your City’ entrants each uploaded up to five of their best shots to the Ted’s website. Winners were then selected from more than 5000 entries by online public voting.

Richard Robertson, managing director of Ted’s, said the winning photos captured their cities’ highlights.

‘It was great to see so many captivating entries. Overall, there was a wide range of photography styles and skill, with every entry in the competition showing a completely unique view of Australia’s cities and towns – from Parramatta in Sydney to Mount Henry Peninsula in Perth, South Bank in Brisbane and St Kilda in Melbourne.

‘It really was a testament to our spectacularly diverse cities and the budding photographers within,’ he said.
