Nikon US opens online store

September 10, 2010: Nikon in the US has followed Canon and Olympus US in opening its own online store to sell direct to consumers.

The site offers the full range of Coolpix cameras, DSLRs, lenses, flash units, accessories, binoculars and sport optics as well as ‘refurbished’ gear.
A Nikon company spokesman is quoted in PMA Newsline as saying the move to direct online was ‘to meet changing consumer need’, and that consumers want multiple ways to purchase.

Pricing is fairly keen on some promoted items (for instance the Coolpix 1000pj is $50 cheaper on the Nikon site than from B&H) but generally, prices appear based on MSRP (US equivalent to RRP). Shipping is currently free (until October 2) for items above US199. The new site will only ship to US street addresses.
