Details sketchy on Olympus flagship compact

September 20, 2010: Olympus Imaging Corporation has announced the development of a new flagship compact digital camera, the first Olympus compact to incorporate an Olympus Zuiko lens.

Scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2011, the new Olympus flagship model will be a high end compact point-and-shoot camera, ‘providing users with high image quality and rich functionality without the weight and bulk of traditional SLRs or the hassle of changing lenses’.

The new model (which appears to lack a name thus far, and nor indeed are many other details available) will have the same type of accessory port as the PEN E-P2 and PEN E-PL1, enabling the use of accessories like flash units and viewfinders.

A concept mock-up of the new flagship camera (pictured above) is being exhibited at Photokina 2010. We will provide further information as it becomes available.
