Tamron updates key zoom lenses

Tamron has two significant updates to its SP 70-200mm and 10-24mm lenses, with both featuring improved image stabilisation, focus speed and accuracy, and build quality.

SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2
The new full frame 70-200mm f2.8 now claims up to five stops of image stabilisation, based on CIPA standards. There are three modes: Mode 1 balances between the stability of the image in the viewfinder with the stability of the final image; Mode 2 stabilises images during panning; while Mode 3 stabilises the final image without stabilising the image through the viewfinder.

The lens features Tamron’s eBAND Coating to reduce optical aberrations, while fluorine coating on the front of the lens makes it easier to clean. The lens is sealed against dust and moisture.

Additional features include:
– 9-blade aperture;
– a minimum focusing distance of 95cm;
– Ultrasonic Silent Drive motor for quiet, speedy AF;
–  Full-time manual focus override;
– Extra Low Dispersion and Low Dispersion lens elements;
– Electromagnetic diaphragm is now available for Nikon-mount lenses for better exposure control during continuous shooting.

The SP 70-200mm is compatible with Tamron’s 1.4x teleconverter (TC-X14) and the 2.0x converter (TC-X20), and also compatible with the TAP-in Console (optional) to customise VC, update firmware and make other lens adjustments.

While new distributor Blonde Robot is yet to reveal local release details, the Tamron SP 70-200mm is expected to make its way to dealers shelves in the US in March.

Towards the middle of the year Blonde Robot will release the Tamron 10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II VC HLD wide angle zoom.

The new version of this APS-C format lens offers up to four stops of image stabilisation. It features a new High/Low torque modulated autofocus drive system, complemented by full-time manual focus override.

Other features include:
– Broad-Band Anti-Reflection coating;
– Fluorine coating on the front of the lens;
– Moisture-resistant build;
– Nikon versions of the lens will now incorporate an electromagnetic diaphragm;
– Compatibility with the optional TAP-in Console;
– Seven blade aperture diaphragm.
