Sony opens third Sydney outlet

Sony is opening a new permanent retail ‘kiosk’ at Castle Towers shopping mall in the Sydney northern suburb of Castle Hill next Saturday, October 29 to offer Sony products ‘at a great price’.
sony-castleThe outlet will retail cameras as well as TVs, headphones, speakers, PlayStation gaming consoles and mobile products.

‘The new kiosk will give Castle Towers’ 19 million customers the opportunity to get hands-on access to Sony’s extensive range of innovative products, as well as ask questions and receive expert advice from retail staff,’ the Sony press release stated.

The Sony outlet joins camera retailers Castle Hill Camera House and JB Hi-Fi as tenants of the shopping centre. It’s the third outlet in Sony’s new chain, joining Westfield Chatswood and Westfield Parramatta locations.

‘We’re excited to open our kiosk in Castle Towers and to engage with its loyal shopper base to help them select the best products to enhance their day-to-day lives,’ said David King, Sony sales & operations manager – Direct Business (Retail). ‘Our goal is to make shopping for electronics simple. We want to blend in seamlessly with customers’ existing shopping journey, so they can purchase products they have been considering from knowledgeable staff; without any hassles, at a great price.’

Big discounts
Over $10,000 in giveaways will be available on opening day. Customers who spend over $1000 at the kiosk will receive a bonus Sony Xperia XA smartphone, valued at $499.

Other opening deals include 15 percent discount on selected lenses on purchase of an interchangeable lens camera; up to 25 off video cameras and actioncams, and up to 30 percent off camera accessories.

The new kiosk was developed in collaboration with Castle Towers to match the centre’s ‘premium aesthetic’. It features brushed metal finishings and marble-look bench tops.

‘The opening of the new Sony Kiosk gives the customers at Castle Towers more choice in high end technological solutions,’ said Martin Ollis, centre manager, Castle Towers. ‘We are excited to see yet another prominent brand opening at the Towers adding to the consumer’s retail experience’.

We followed up with Sony to ask:
Does Sony plan to open more Sony kiosk outlets?
– Sony is always on the lookout for the right opportunities for new stores, but we do not have confirmed plans at this moment.
With Sony customers such as Camera House and JB Hi-Fi with stores at Castle Towers, isn’t there a risk of Sony cannibalising sales from its customers through  this venture?
– Our goal is to grow the awareness and sales of the Sony brand in the entire area, including our retail partners – as we’ve seen happen with our Chatswood and Parramatta locations.
