Zeiss launches new range for Sony full frames

New Zeiss Batis f2 25mm and f1.8 85mm lenses are the first models in a Zeiss range for Sony Alpha full frame sensor cameras.

The Zeiss Batis lenses have an OLED panel on the barrel.

They include an OLED display on the barrel that shows the distance of the focal plane from the camera system and the depth of field as the aperture is adjusted. While this might seem a bit of a gimmick, it does allow the photographer to read the display in low light.

Linear motors provide a fast, quiet AF drive and manual focus override is supported. Each lens has an electronically adjusted diaphragm with nine blades to ensure attractive bokeh.

Dust- and weather-proof sealing enable the lenses to be used in adverse conditions. Both lenses support the full range of operating modes and functions in current Sony E-mount cameras.

The new prime lenses are scheduled for release from July 2015. No local pricing is available, but for Zeiss optics, the new Sony-compatible lenses are relatively inexpensive at well under US$1500 for each.
