New cameras, lenses from Fujifilm

Fujifilm has announced two new cameras and several lenses in the US for February release.

Xa2The Fujifilm X-A2 is a lightweight, ‘selfie-ready’ mirrorless interchangeable with a 3-inch, 175-degree tilting LCD screen on the back that can be pointed forwards for maximum narcissism.

More generally, it features face and eye detection to assist with people pics.

Other features include 0.5s startup; 0.3s autofocus, 0.05s shutter lag, 0.4s shooting interval, wireless image transferring (Wi-Fi); in-camera Raw processing; pop-up flash, ‘Classic Chrome’ film simulation; multiple exposure mode, and Full HD 1080p/30fps video.

The X-A2 will be available in the US starting in February 2015 with a minimum advertised price of US$550 bundled with the 16-50mm lens (see below).

Fuji-XQ2Fujifilm’s new premium compact camera is the XQ2, which overseas websites are describing as the XQ1 with a firmware update.

Specs are comme le XQ1: 12-megapixel 2/3-inch X-Trans CMOS sensor with EXR Processor II…ISO from 100 to 12,800…4x optical zoom f1.8-f4.9 lens (25-100mm in 35mm)…3-inch 920K-dot LCD screen…1 second startup time, 0.015s shutter lag, 0.3s shooting interval, 0.06s autofocus…3-stop optical image stabilisation…popup flash…HD movies with stereo microphone…Wi-Fi.

US minimum advertised price is US$400.

Two new kit lenses were announced along with the X-A2, while a more impressive 16-55mm F2.8 lens was announced separately.

fuji1655The XF 16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR is the equivalent of 24-84mm in 35mm terms, and features a constant f2.8 aperture across its zoom range. Autofocus speed is just 0.06 seconds, and the focusing system has quiet autofocus that silently takes its place alongside Fuji’s ‘silent shutter’ firmware updates.

It has a weather-resistant and dust proof exterior for reliable performance in the field. There are 14 seals to help keep the innards nice and dry. The front lens element has a Nano-GI coating that reduces ghosting and lens flare…9 blade aperture for attractive bokeh. Minimum focusing distance is around 30cm.

The 16-55mm f2.8 ships in the US in February with a minimum advertsised price of US$1200.

The XC50-230mm II F4.5-6.7 OIS (76-350mm in 35mm) offers as the name implies, optical image stabilisation…12 all glass elements arranged in 10 groups, including 3 aspherical elements and 1 ED element…seven round-edged aperture blades…

The XC16-50mm II F3.5-5.6 OIS (24-76mm in 35mm) has 12 elements in 10 groups (3 aspherical elements and 1 ED element)…optical image stabilisation…seven round-edged aperture blades.
