IDEA’s Digital Playground plans firm

IDEA, in association with the AIPP, has confirmed it will wrap three days of seminars, workshops and exhibits around the 2014 AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards (APPAs) at Sydney’s Luna Park under the banner of ‘The Digital Playground’.

The 300-seat theatre at Luna Park will feature six speakers each day during The Digital Playground event.

The event, reported first in Photo Counter last week, will take place at the Luna Park Big Top, September 12-14 next year.

IDEA will host six speakers per day in the 300-seat theatre. In addition there will be a small exhibition area where the latest still and video imaging technologies will be demonstrated.

‘The Digital Playground in conjunction with the APPA’s will be Sydney’s premier photography and imaging event in 2014. The venue is superb and, although smaller than the Digital Show, the exhibit area will be packed with equipment and demonstrations with many special offers from leading imaging brands,’ said Rob Gatto, vice-president, Professional, IDEA.

IDEA says The Digital Playground in conjunction with the 2014 APPA’s will reflect the emerging trend for advanced enthusiast photographers to network and learn from full-time professionals. It says that this trend is typified by the establishment of the Clique Photographers Association by Fairfax Media and sponsored by Canon, Adobe and Digital Camera Warehouse.

‘The creative tools within reach of enthusiast photographers today have never before been so extensive,’ said Mr Gatto. ‘As with all tools, ownership of them does not by itself ensure professional-grade success, so it is a welcome initiative to see a broadening out of learning and networking opportunities for what is the world’s most powerful visual communications medium – photography.

The AIPP has been gravitating towards a larger ‘market’ over the past couple of years by expanding membership categories in incorporate emerging photographers and enthusiasts.

Luna Park incorporates a conference and event space, and is in a superb location, adjacent to the northern towers of Sydney Harbour Bridge. Access is easy by train (Milson’s Point) or ferry and plenty of car parking is within reach.

‘We look forward to welcoming all comers in September to the Digital Playground and the APPA’s. A top-line speaker program will be announced early in 2014 and entries for the APPA’s will be announced by the AIPP sometime in 2014,’ concluded Mr Gatto.
